Mithat Bereket
PUSULA which is broadcast on CNN Turk, is a bi-weekly news program on foreign policy issues. Mr. Bereket is also preparing a daily primetime news program, +Bir, (“Plus One”) a daily prime time news program, and is the host of “Pusula”, (“The Compass”).During his 18 years of experience as a TV journalist, Mithat Bereket has also taken part in the coverage of a number of major events as the main anchorman for Turkish news channel NTV. These events include President Bill Clinton’s visit to Turkey, the OSCE Summit in Istanbul, the Helsinki Summit of the European Union, general elections in Greece, the elections in Cyprus, the elections in the U.S. and the World Trade Center attacks in New York.
Mr. Bereket, as a roving reporter and war correspondent, travels intensively around the world for major news stories. He followed the Gulf War, the war in Bosnia, the Afghan War, the tensions in Algeria, the conflict in Karabagh, the war in Chechnya, the Palestinian Intifada and the NATO Operation in Kosovo. Bereket has held several exclusive interviews with leaders, politicians, opinion-makers and other prominent public figures including: Nelson Mandela, Benazir Butto, Bill Clinton, Muammar Al Gaddafi, Yasser Arafat, B.Bouthros Gali, Masud Barzani, Yitzak Rabin, Madeleine Albright, Brent Scowcroft, Binyamin Netanyahu, Mikhail Kalashnikov, King Abdallah of Jordan, Walid Jumblatt and Mohamed el Baradei.
Mithat Bereket graduated from the University of Ankara with a degree in International Relations. He played basketball professionally both at the College Basketball Team and then later for the Turkish National Team. He got his M.A. from Lancaster University, Department of International Relations, in England. His master’s dissertation was on Cyprus. He is still a Ph.D. student in the same university doing a research on Fundamentalist Islam.
