ABOUT Afghan Media Productions

Afghan Media Productions (AMP) provides millions of viewers and listeners with in-depth and thoughtful programming, offering a unique perspective on the rich spectrum of Afghan society. By establishing a credible and informative platform for moderate Muslim voices on Afghan television and radio, these programs foster greater awareness and understanding in Afghanistan.

The AMP office opened in 2010, with an all-Afghan staff in Kabul, Afghanistan. AMP represents a unique opportunity for an Afghan-led documentary production company to build independent media capacity in Afghanistan while exposing an Afghan audience to high-quality, locally produced documentaries, a format which remains relatively unknown in the Afghan media landscape.

In its first year, AMP produced Bonds of Humanity, a television and radio documentary series providing viewers and listeners with engaging programs on the diverse traditions, history, and culture of Muslim communities in Afghanistan and around the world.

The AMP production team has produced original material from around Afghanistan looking at the culture, landscape, and traditions of historical locations such as Bamiyan and Herat. The AMP team also traveled to Washington, DC in the spring of 2011 to explore Muslim life in America, and connect their audiences at home in Afghanistan with the Afghan-American community in the Washington area.

AMP documentaries also incorporate acquired documentary material from AAM partner channels across the Muslim World. These have included documentaries from MBC Dubai, TRT Turkey, AL-Iraqiya Iraq, Metro TV Indonesia and Jordan Television, on topics ranging from Islamic architecture to an exploration of the life of Iraqi soldiers, and the role of Indonesian women in the workplace.

The documentaries are hosted by the director of AMP, who places all foreign content within an Afghan context. The documentaries air weekly every Friday in Dari and Pashto on Tolo TV and Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA), two of the top channels in Afghanistan.
