The town of Hull, MA has a centuries old history of harnessing wind energy. Salt-producing windmills of the 1820’s have evolved into modern electricity-producing wind turbines, standing tall above the shores of this coastal community. In 2001, a 660 kW turbine was installed at Windmill Point, at the tip of the peninsula that is Hull. “Hull Wind One,” as it is known, was the first commercial-scale wind turbine to go online anywhere on the eastern U.S. coastline. A second, larger turbine was installed 5 years later.

Dick Miller, Operations Manager of the Hull Municipal Light Plant, and Pat Cannon, Chairman of the Hull Municipal Light Board, tells us how the turbines impact the cost of electricity for Hull residents and why this wind energy project has been met with a 95% approval rating. Watch >
