(Washington DC – September 11, 2012) Last night, Voice of Afghan Women Radio (VAWR) aired the latest episode of Breadwinners, AAM’s weekly series profiling female entrepreneurs in Afghanistan and their role in the country’s economy.
The episode featured Malali Jawad, owner of the Hilala Silk Production Company. Founded in 2009 with a grant from the 10,000 Women Initiative, the thriving business now employs twenty-seven people and is looking to expand internationally.

Breadwinners broadcasts every Monday night in Dari or Pashto on VAWR, the first Afghan radio station to be operated “by women, for women.”
