America Abroad Wins Award for Radio Documentary
Submitted by admin on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 09:51(Washington DC – May 10, 2011) The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has awarded America Abroad the 2010 Sigma Delta Chi Award for excellence in journalism for the three-part radio series: The Arab World’s Demographic Dilemma: Young, Unemployed, and Searching for a Voice.
The Sigma Delta Chi Awards, which date back to 1939, honor outstanding work published or broadcast in 2010. The winners are selected from over 1,400 entries in print, radio, television, and online media.
The Arab World's Demographic Dilemma: Young, Unemployed, and Searching for a Voice is a special three-part series exploring the challenges Arab youth face today, including unemployment, social exclusion, and the lack of personal and political freedoms, all key drivers of the revolutions in the region today. First broadcast in July 2010, the series foreshadowed today's unrest in the region, and has continued to air on public radio stations nationwide.
The series includes:
- Young and Restless: Youth Identity in the Arab World
- Overlooked and Underpaid: Arab Youth in Today’s Economy
- Words and Deeds: Freedom of Expression and Arab Youth
