America Abroad Producer in Peru

AAM’s Carberry Selected for International Reporting Project

Sean Carberry, Supervising Senior Producer for America Abroad, has been selected to participate in the International Reporting Project (IRP) of the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.

IRP fellowships provide support for leading journalists to travel overseas and report on countries or issues that are typically under-covered in the American media. Carberry will travel to Peru on the IRP November “Gatekeeper” Trip, an intensive group tour designed specifically for senior-level producers and editors.

The Peru trip, scheduled for November 8-24, will focus on health, environment, and development issues. Carberry plans to report on USAID, regional politics, the drug trade, and possibly the Shining Path, a Peruvian rebel group.

Carberry will blog for AAM throughout his trip. His stories will be posted online at http://aamdispatch.org/.

The IRP was created in 1998 to address the diminishing of international affairs coverage in the US news media. To date, the IRP has provided travel opportunities for more than 270 US journalists. IRP participants have garnered a range of awards for their reporting, including duPont Awards, Emmy Awards, and an Oscar nomination for best documentary.
