Andrew Erdmann

Andrew Erdmann has worked for a major international consulting firm since 2005. His clients have included retail, high tech, and energy industries, as well as the public sector. From 2001 to 2005, he served in a variety of foreign policy positions in the U.S. government, including: Director for Iran, Iraq, and Strategic Planning on the National Security Council staff; Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research with the Coalitional Provisional Authority in Iraq; and Member of the Secretary of State's Policy Planning Staff. Before entering government service, Dr. Erdmann was a historian. He has published essays on the history of American diplomacy and national security policy in a variety of journals and edited collections. He has taught international affairs at Harvard University and George Washington University, and lectured widely on current national security policy and the relationship between academia and the policy world. He was also a Jennings Randolph Peace Scholar of the U.S. Institute of Peace, a National Security Fellow at the John M. Olin Institute for Strategic Studies at Harvard University, a Jacob Javits Fellow of the U.S. Department of Education, and a Mellon Fellow in the Humanities. He graduated summa cum laude in History and Political Science from Williams College and then earned a First Class Honours degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford University. Dr. Erdmann received a Ph.D. in History from Harvard University.
