Richard Haass

Richard Haass is President of the Council on Foreign Relations. Prior to the Council, Dr. Haass was Director of Policy Planning for the Department of State, where he was a principal advisor to Secretary of State Colin Powell on a broad range of foreign policy concerns. Previously, Dr. Haass served as Vice President and Director of Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution and was a faculty member at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. He is the author several books including, The Opportunity: America’s Moment to Alter History’s Course (2005).
