Richard Burt
Ambassador Richard Burt is chairman of International Equity Partners, an investment banking and advisory services firm in Washington. He is a senior adviser to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, senior director at McLarty Associates, and a member of the Middle East Strategy Group at the Aspen Institute. Burt was appointed US Ambassador to Germany in 1985 and served until 1989. Burt also served as chief negotiator in the Strategic Arms Reduction Talks with the former Soviet Union. He worked at the State Department from 1981 to 1985, first as Director of Politic-Military Affairs and then as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Canadian Affairs. Prior to joining the State Department, Burt was the national security correspondent for the Washington bureau of The New York Times. Burt is a board member for Detusche Bank and EADS North America and a trustee of the UBS family of mutual funds. He received a vachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1969 and a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in 1971.
