Chuck Hagel

Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) was elected to the United States Senate in 1996. He has been a member of the Foreign Relations committee since his election to the Senate and is currently the third ranking Republican on the committee. He also serves on the Committees for Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Energy and Natural Resources, and Budget. Before being elected to the Senate, Senator Hagel was president of McCarthy & Company, an investment banking firm in Omaha. He served as president and CEO of the Private Sector Council, the Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations, and the World USO. He served in combat in Vietnam, and was appointed by President Reagan in 1981 to be Deputy Administrator of the Veterans Administration. He began his career by serving as Administrative Assistant to Congressman John Y. McCollister (R-NE). Senator Hagel graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
