Ambassador C. Boyden Gray currently serves on the board of directors for the Atlantic Council. He was appointed ambassador to the European Union in 2006, and subsequently served as Special Envoy for European Affairs and Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy at the Mission of the United States to the European Union. Prior to his appointment, Gray was a partner at Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale and Dorr law firm in Washington. He worked there from 1969 to 1981 and 1993 to 2005. In the interim, Gray served as Legal Counsel during the Reagan Administration and White House Counsel during the first Bush administration. Gray served as chairman of the Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice of the American Bar Association from 2000 to 2002. Gray is a recipient of the Presidential Citizens Medal. A former US Marine, Gray holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a J.D. from the Law School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
